Bob Maynard was turned down by three branches of the armed forces before he was accepted by the U.S. Army.
Maynard ended up serving more than 300 days in combat during World War II. His experience, recorded in diaries, are featured in a new book, the sales of which will benefit the Michigan Veterans of Foreign War.
