A Michigan historical marker was put up on July 14, 2021 highlighting the Woolsey Family Farm and airport as a registered historic site. The marker captures the story of how the Woolsey family settled in Northport, while also recognizing the signifi cance of the airport and what it stands for. The historical marker contains background on either side of the Woolsey family farm and Clinton F. Woolsey Memorial Airport. This particular side highlights Captain Woolsey and how he was selected as a pilot to serve in the Pan-American Good Will Flight from 1926-27. The historic stone covered building along county highway 629 only a few miles from the village of Northport is a sight to see and arguably one of the most scenic properties in the county.
The Clinton F. Woolsey Memorial Airport serves as part of Leelanau County’s identity and its history is just as important today as it was when it was first dedicated on July 14, 1935.
