Marian Evelyn Hamlin of Elmwood Township, Michigan, (formerly of Dearborn, Michigan), age 95, entered her heavenly home to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Marian was born on July 19, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan to German immigrants Gottlieb and Emelia (Kirsch) Gietzel. An outstanding student, she learned how to sew and cook in high school, but also had interest in chemistry and accounting. She rode the streetcar to downtown Detroit to work at the grand Hudson’s Department Store. She attended the Detroit Institute of Technology (now part of Wayne State University) where she gained a pharmacy degree and met her husband Eugene Robert Hamlin. Together they raised four children and owned and operated Hamlin Drugs in Dearborn and Inkster, Michigan. Marian was an active member of Good Hope Lutheran Church until moving to Leelanau County later in life. She was a very talented seamstress, winning an award in high school, and later in life, tailoring and mending clothes for friends and family. Marian loved her family dearly and could often be seen with a grandchild or two on her knee at the piano playing their favorite tunes. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery, crossstitch, quilting, painting, and swimming. Her fondest memories were shared with her family often gathered together for a meal and laughter.

With great sadness, but also great joy, her family is celebrating the 95 years they were lucky to have her.

Marian is survived by her four children, Kathleen (Barry) Brown of Traverse City, Elaine Nielsen of Dearborn, David (Cassie) Hamlin of Newberry, and Richard (Diane) Hamlin of Portage, Michigan; ten grandchildren, Rebecca, Alison, Rachel, Andrew, Jennifer, Alyssa, Kelly, Andrea, Emily, Justin; and thirteen greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gottlieb and Emelia; and her loving husband of 59 years Eugene.

There will be a time of visitation on Monday, October 3, 2022, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to immediately follow, at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
