SWIMMERS DIVE IN FOR WATERSHED CENTER
SWIMMERS DIVE IN FOR WATERSHED CENTER
Between 75 and 100 swimmers took the plunge Saturday in Greilickville to support the efforts of the Watershed Center Grand Traverse. A large crowd of swimmers conquered the wet conditions for a 2-mile open swim called “Swim for Grand Traverse” Saturday at Greilickville Harbor Park. 08/14/2024 04:33 PM

Groups support disabled hunting
I had a preliminary conversation this spring with Kingsley parents who wanted to take their son who has a developmental disability out turkey hunting. A question arose: How could we get him a license? 07/24/2024 03:46 PM

Kids Fishing Day a hit
Bluegills were prolific, and so were young people hooking them Sunday at the biggest-ever Kids Fishing Day. Prompted by good fishing weather — cooler with clouds — families flocked to Veronica Valley County Park and were rewarded with plenty of fishing action to go with amphibian displays, kids painting tables, flyfi shing lessons and free hot dogs. 07/02/2024 05:21 PM

Trophy lakers a trend
Charter fishing out of Leland has been very good for lake trout with more salmon already showing up in catches than in recent years. “We’ve got good lake trout fishing,” said Jack Duffy, a veteran charter captain who runs out of Fishtown. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM

‘Open winter’ frustrates fishermen
I wonder what Leelanauts were saying about the weather in 1905? That’s the year of the “open winter,” as described by folks on Drummond Island, anyway. Betsey Price of Lake Leelanau was born and raised on the island, and heard about the weather phenomena that must have seemed totally out of place in an era still clinging to the Little Ice Age. 03/27/2024 04:47 PM
