18 candidates seek mayor’s post in Omena
The 2024 Omena Mayor elections are in full swing! There is a diverse field of 18 candidates. While the candidates are required to have a residence in Greater Omena, anyone can vote. The every-three-year election is a fundraiser for the Omena Historical Society (OHS). You can vote at the Election Center Board in front of the Omena Historical Society, or on-line at omenahistoricalsociety. org. Vote early and vote often! Lake Leelanau Poker Float set for July 21
The annual Lake Leelanau Poker Float fundraiser is set to be held once again on Sunday, July 21, with this year’s theme being “Countries of the Olympics.” This will be the second year the event takes to the water to help raise funds and awareness about controlling the invasive Eurasian Watermilfoil in Lake Leelanau. All funds raised will go towards the Friends of Lake Leelanau, a local nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality and beauty of the lake, including financing the prevention, monitoring, and control of invasive species. 07/10/2024 03:48 PM

Jamie Kramer, Leelanau County’s District 1 commissioner, amended her June 29 resignation letter Tuesday afternoon to make her resignation effective immediately.
