Leland group wraps giving project
Leland Women’s Civic Club members recently completed their 10th annual Christmas Giving Project, which provides clothing for infants, toddlers, and young children to Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) Baby Pantry and the VFW Hall’s Holiday Needs Program. The 48-member organization collected winter jackets, snow pants, winter outfits, sweaters, onesies, pajamas, dresses and diapers for needy families in Leelanau County. More than 100 items were donated to the two organizations, along with $400 in cash to be used to purchase additional needed baby items. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

Leelanau Twp. approves bonus for firefighters
Paid on-call Leelanau Township firefighters will receive their 2023 annual continuity “legacy” bonus after all following the township board’s unanimous approval last week. Npt. school superintendent rated ‘effective’ again
The Northport Public School Board of Education (BOE) unanimously voted December 11 to approve the rating of superintendent Neil Wetherbee as “effective” for his 2023 district leader evaluation. Unlike other school districts in Leelanau County, Northport does not produce an evaluation document with specific ratings of each domain. However, Wetherbee said the district continues to follow the Marzano Teacher Evaluation System, one of the evaluations recommended by the Michigan Council of Educator Effectiveness. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

People interested in tuning in online to Leelanau Township board meetings will have to watch via YouTube starting in January. The three month “trial” will give board trustees a chance to gauge how well streaming meetings via YouTube works versus Zoom, a video conferencing platform continuously used by the township since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

Construction is completed on the Vineyard View Apartments, an affordable housing complex on Marek Road in Suttons Bay off M-204.
