LEELANAU HISTORY
The obtrusive messaging sign outside Glen Arbor’s town hall is coming down. Wax museum at St. Mary
St. Mary School fifth graders welcomed schoolmates and visitors May 9 to their interactive wax museum. Modeled after Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Washington, D.C., students posed in costume next to their chosen historical figures. The interactive wax museum had the goal of bringing historical figures and events to life through “wax” figures that visitors can see and hear. Once the “audio” button was pushed, the student came to life and shared a prepared speech about their chosen historical figure. The project began as students read a “Who Was…” book and studied the history of their chosen historical figure. They then composed a five-paragraph essay about their chosen figure before preparing their live presentation. Pictured here is Louis LaCross dressed at Franklin Roosevelt.
