Leelanau County’s chief deputy treasurer and chief deputy register of deeds had their salaries raised by over 10% by the county board of commissioners last week. Northport Council approves nuisance ordinance
The Village of Northport unanimously approved a nuisance ordinance, the first of its kind for the municipality, at its regular meeting on Sept. 12. The adopted ordinance is one that was already in effect in Leelanau Township, Northport Village Manager Jim Dyer said in his monthly report, but includes additional language to the noise portion “to create some objective standards for enforcement of a violation.” 09/25/2024 04:23 PM

Friday, Ornée swam 7.4 miles between Pyramid Point and the southern tip of North Manitou Island in two hours and 50 minutes. Then Monday, Ornée and four friends — Ben Blake, Grand Rapids, Nick DeHaan. Grand Rapids, Jesse Gould, Grand Blanc, and Sean Murphy, Hudsonville — set the team time trial record for bicycle riding across Michigan with an average speed of 24.7 mph. *** A local resident hit the literal jackpot Saturday night. The lucky Michigan Lottery player won $80 million after purchasing a Powerball ticket from Barrels & Barrels in Suttons Bay, according to a press release from the Michigan Lottery. The Leelanau Historical Society hosted its third annual maritime history festival Saturday, in conjunction with the 19th annual Wood Boats on the Wall. Northport wind turbine removal in the works
Northport wind turbine removal in the works
While no dates have been set, contractors have now been identified to help remove the remaining base of the Northport wind turbine tower. The turbine fell in December 2022 due to high wind gusts and severe weather, and members from Leelanau Energy, the nonprofit responsible for its maintenance and operation, have been working to set up an action plan to move forward since the incident. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
