Salute!
Salute!
To the editor: A Message to My Fellow Veterans: A man has referred to row after row of white granite crosses as a place for ”losers and “suckers”! That man also attacked a gold star family for political reasons. He then referred to a veteran as a coward because he was a prisoner of war. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Ugliness forever
Ugliness forever
To the editor: Dear friends and neighbors: Good news! We may never have to endure another presidential campaign. The bad news is, that would be because Trump made himself president for life! Do we want to listen to Trump and Vance’s anger and ugliness forever? Do we want a president who is woefully misinformed? (You don’t think he’s lying, do you?!) Do we want the free press abolished? Do we want a president who, when he’s dealing with foreign leaders, is so weak and ineffectual that, according to him, he is picked on and bullied? Doesn’t sound very pleasant. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Price gouging?
Price gouging?
To the editor: Kamala Harris states that food providers are “price gouging” and she will punish them with some new (bad) laws to control pricing. In fact, grocers earn an after-tax profit of less than 2 cents on every dollar earned, a pretty thin profit margin. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Sanctimonious sign
Sanctimonious sign
To the editor: The mound of signs entering Lake Leelanau is unsightly and unwelcoming. This must be private property and doubt half the people nor businesses appreciate the view. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Strong feelings
Strong feelings
To the editor: I would like to voice my feelings about Segment 9 of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail. I have had the privilege of living in Leelanau County for over 20 years and my husband and I have enjoyed the trails and initially we were looking forward to the expansion but this particular segment at this particular time in environmental history is wrong. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
McMillan support
McMillan support
To the editor: The election for Leelanau Township supervisor includes incumbent candidate Mike McMillan. Mike was appointed as the third person to hold the office during the present term. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Project 2025 … weird
Project 2025 … weird
To the editor: The 920-page Project 2025 document, with introduction by J.D. Vance, is a dangerous, far right, anti-democratic playbook. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Transgenderism
Transgenderism
To the editor: Transgenderism is a political ideology to destabilize society, tear apart families, exploit and confuse vulnerable children, and put men in women’s restrooms. There’s a reason you can’t vote or drink until legal age. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
Thanks for listening
Thanks for listening
To the editor: At the recent Cleveland Township board meeting there was discussion about Segment 9 of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail -— the proposed route through wetlands, rare dune/ swale areas, and forested dunes where 7,300 trees will be cut and retaining walls built to hold back dunes, in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Thanks to Supervisor Tim Stein and township trustees for listening to constituents and agreeing to reconsider your support of the Segment 9 proposed route. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM

Corrections:
A large bird included in a photo ran in Section 2 last week was misidentified. The bird is not a sandhill crane. It is a Great Blue Heron. *** Jack Anderson won grand champion for open class goat showmanship at the Northwestern Michigan Fair. 08/21/2024 09:15 PM
