Living in the real world
Living in the real world
To the editor: A writer suggests “Biden is a man who wakes up every day trying to do the right thing for the American people.” The only accurate part of this is “wakes up.” Since Biden took office, fuel prices skyrocketed, food costs soared, and American families are struggling to survive. Student debt relief? That consists of hardworking taxpayers financing debt taken on by others. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

Note of Thanks
We want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has offered their kindness, support, and messages of sympathy on the loss of our father, Elmer Kalchik. A huge thank you to the doctors and nurses at NPalliative, Hospice of Michigan, Reverend Michael Class, Deacon Martin Korson, the Parish of St. Wenceslaus, the Altar Society of St. Wenceslaus for the delicious funeral luncheon and Martinson’s Funeral Home for their professionalism and kindness to our family during our time of loss. We would also like to thank all family, friends and neighbors who traveled near and far to be with us and all who volunteered at his visitation and/or funeral service. A graveside burial with full military honors will be held in the spring at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with Elmer joining his recently deceased spouse Millie overlooking the family farm. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: While we were pleased the Enterprise called for releasing the raw data from the recent Cultural Survey, we are disappointed that our paper of record doesn’t seem interested in investigating why commission Kama Ross exchanged 1,250 emails with county employees about the survey. What could such a volume of communication be for? Thank you — Melinda Lautner — for your courage in demanding answers through a Freedom of Information Act request. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Invest in ‘affordable’ housing
Invest in ‘affordable’ housing
To the editor: Do we want the most beautiful natural sites and farmland in Leelanau County to be scooped up by international and out-ofstate buyers, who see our natural resources as their cash cow? We want people living here year-round, investing in the county, its residents and businesses. Putting down roots. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Tree removal ‘reprehensible’
Tree removal ‘reprehensible’
To the editor: In a letter published in last week’s Enterprise, an author wrote in favor of the current proposed routing of Segment 9 of the SBHT. His arguments are reprehensible, short-sighted, and out-of-date. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

Carnivore diet improved attention
In the month of January, I tried something new to me — a structured diet — that consisted of eating only carnivore products for World Carnivore month. The carnivore diet is a dietary approach that consumes only animal products and excludes all plant-based foods. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Cherries … a lifestyle worth saving
Cherries … a lifestyle worth saving
Thank goodness for dried cherries, both for their taste and their importance in sustaining the livelihoods of growers in Leelanau County and across the state. Cherries easily outperform raisins and cranberries in the dried fruit taste department. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
