Tree removal ‘reprehensible’
To the editor: In a letter published in last week’s Enterprise, an author wrote in favor of the current proposed routing of Segment 9 of the SBHT. His arguments are reprehensible, short-sighted, and out-of-date.

Invest in ‘affordable’ housing
To the editor: Do we want the most beautiful natural sites and farmland in Leelanau County to be scooped up by international and out-ofstate buyers, who see our natural resources as their cash cow? We want people living here year-round, investing in the county, its residents and businesses. Putting down roots.

Transparency needed
To the editor: While we were pleased the Enterprise called for releasing the raw data from the recent Cultural Survey, we are disappointed that our paper of record doesn’t seem interested in investigating why commission Kama Ross exchanged 1,250 emails with county employees about the survey. What could such a volume of communication be for? Thank you — Melinda Lautner — for your courage in demanding answers through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Louise Hagerty
Sunday, February 4th, 2024, marked the passing of a truly remarkable woman, Louise Hagerty, at the age of 88. A pioneering entrepreneur and a lifelong resident of Northern Michigan, Louise left an indelible mark on the world. In the words of Maya Angelou, Louise was indeed a “Phenomenal Woman” – her strength, grace, and inner beauty shone through in everything she did.

Note of Thanks
We want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has offered their kindness, support, and messages of sympathy on the loss of our father, Elmer Kalchik. A huge thank you to the doctors and nurses at NPalliative, Hospice of Michigan, Reverend Michael Class, Deacon Martin Korson, the Parish of St. Wenceslaus, the Altar Society of St. Wenceslaus for the delicious funeral luncheon and Martinson’s Funeral Home for their professionalism and kindness to our family during our time of loss. We would also like to thank all family, friends and neighbors who traveled near and far to be with us and all who volunteered at his visitation and/or funeral service. A graveside burial with full military honors will be held in the spring at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with Elmer joining his recently deceased spouse Millie overlooking the family farm.

Union votes up for grabs
There is an intense political badminton match in full bloom between the Joe Biden side and those playing with Donald Trump and the birdie in the middle? The 980,000 current and retired UAW workers whose vote is up for grabs.

Living in the real world
To the editor: A writer suggests “Biden is a man who wakes up every day trying to do the right thing for the American people.” The only accurate part of this is “wakes up.” Since Biden took office, fuel prices skyrocketed, food costs soared, and American families are struggling to survive. Student debt relief? That consists of hardworking taxpayers financing debt taken on by others.

Hardly a landslide
To the editor: The primary season is likely to get busier before it gets better, but I would like to point out that during the Iowa caucus only 15% of the state’s registered Republicans turned out, and of them only 51% caucused for Trump* (CBS, 1/16/24). Hardly a landslide.

6 bankruptcies
To the editor: Facebook is always asking... What’s on my mind?...Well the state of our country and my puzzlement at who the GOP wants to be their choice for presidential candidacy...
