Lautner bested in Primary Election
Locally, this year’s Aug. 6 Primary Election results determined the Republican nominees for the District 1, 2, and 7 Leelanau County commissioner seats on the Nov. 5 ballot, and authorized the renewal of the county roads and highways maintenance and repair millage, the early childhood services millage, and the senior citizens services millage. 08/08/2024 06:09 AM

1,500 served at Breakfast Fly/Drive-In
Over 1,500 visitors and locals alike showed up to enjoy another delicious pancake and sausage breakfast at the annual Northport Lions Club Fly-In, Drive-In held Saturday morning at Woolsey Memorial Airport. Along with the fresh breakfast cooked up and prepared with the help of 110 volunteers, people also enjoyed the numerous planes and antique cars on display, as well as music performed by the Northport Community Band. 08/08/2024 06:09 AM

A room filled with mechanical and electronic equipment that controls the Leland Dam is flooded due to high Lake Michigan water levels, imperiling the county’s ability to control Lake Leelanau water levels and the flow of water into Fishtown. Docks in Fishtown are already in peril due to high Lake Michigan water levels. Moisture in the dam’s control room could short-circuit equipment required to manipulate hydraulic rams and gates that regulate the flow of water over the dam. *** Leelanau County voters will head to the polls this fall to decide whether to approve 0.235mill property tax over the next five years to pay for “early childhood services” for county residents. A deeply divided Leelanau County Board of Commissioners voted 4-3 Tuesday to accept the recommendation of an “Early Childhood County Committee” led by District No. 5 Commissioner Patricia Soutas-Little, a Democrat, and District No. 1 Commissioner Tony Ansorge, a Republican. 08/08/2024 06:09 AM
