Fire millage requests in 4 townships approved
Fire millage requests on the ballot in four townships, Centerville, Cleveland, Kasson, and Solon, were approved Tuesday night as more than 9,000 voters made their way to the polls to show overwhelming support for continued services. All townships are members of Cedar Area Fire and Rescue (CAFR), each determining the method of fiscally supporting the four-township department.

“Night of Nudes” art showcased at V Gallery
V Gallery in Omena held its opening show for its first group exhibition, “Night of Nudes,” last Friday evening featuring 24 artists’ original work on display until Sunday, August 11. The artwork, which had a focus on night scenes and the nude form, appeared in the forms of paintings, sculptures, photography, textile, and jewelry.

Fun in the sun. Beach-goers take in the summertime weather at Good Harbor Beach in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Kids are spotted playing on a floating tree that washed up near shore while other catch some rays and look for treasures along the shore of the beach.

State Ag. Department to hold press conference

3 library millage proposals pass in Leelanau
Three library millage proposals on the ballot in Leland, Suttons Bay-Bingham, and the City of Traverse City were approved by voters in Tuesday night’s primary election. Leland Township’s Library Millage Proposal was approved with 545 votes (69.96%) versus the 234 votes (30.04%) against it.

Julian edges Noonan in Kasson
Close elections were plentiful Tuesday night as dozens of primaries for various township positions were up in the air. Incumbent Greg Julian (51.21%) won the Republican nomination for the Kasson Township Supervisor beating township resident Ryan “Buzzy” Noonan (48.79%) by seven votes.

Former G-L band director sentenced
