The next Elmwood Township Planning Commission meeting could be a doozy. If the size of the crowd and the emotions in the room at a Nov. 20 planning commission meeting are anything like what was on display at a privately-organized neighborhood meeting Tuesday night in the Elmwood Township Hall. *** The Leland Dam Authority on will review bids on a “flood wall” to keep water out of a control room at the base of the Leland Dam and may recommend that everyone owning waterfront on Lake Leelanau help pay for ongoing maintenance of the dam. St. Mary Auction Nov. 9
Like so many fundraisers, the first St. Mary School auction began out of necessity in the fall of 1982. A group of parents held a dinner and auction to raise money to operate the school. Fast forward to today where the need is just as great. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM

Looking forward to holiday season
Another Halloween is in the books and it was fun as always. We had over 250 Trick or Treaters in Glen Arbor, and I am sure the same in Empire for the Trunk or Treat. It is always fun and the costumes are clever. The next holiday to look forward to is Thanksgiving, and that is the beginning. I hope the weather holds out, but we sure need some moisture. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM

Good time had by all at Trivia Night
The Trivia Night fundraiser for Leelanau Investing for Teens (LIFT) at Hop Lot Thursday was a great success and a lot of fun. Debby and I and Kim and Dennis Armbruster were there from Omena. The LIFT program got its start 10 years ago in the home of current Executive Director Rebekah TenBrink and her husband Gerald to provide a place for teens to gather on weekends. LIFT became official in 2017 and moved into The Friendship Center in Suttons Bay, primarily as an after school program for Suttons Bay middle and high school students who could walk from the school. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM
