North Manitou Shoal continuing rebuild
Largely through private donations, grants and memberships, North Manitou Light Keeps raised its first million dollars this summer. Locals call it “The Crib” – a famous lighthouse marking the shallow shoal on the west side of the Manitou Passage that sits in 25 feet of water and threatens shipping lanes. 09/18/2024 05:51 PM

Gallagher Farms in Elmwood Township, which is perhaps best known as the venue for Bay View Weddings, is getting a new distillery tasting room. National Lakeshore visitation rebounds
Propelled by a near record-setting June and solid performances in July and August, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore visitation appears headed for its busiest season in at least four years. History group wins award
History group wins award
The Leelanau Historical Society has won the State History Award in the media category for their documentary film “Lake Leelanau, Spirit of the Lake.” This award, given by the Historical Society of Michigan, recognizes outstanding achievements in the appreciation and understanding of Michigan history. “We are very honored to be recognized for our hard work on this amazing film,” said Kim Kelderhouse, executive director of the Leelanau Historical Society. 09/12/2024 06:28 AM
