Northport school BOE adopts 2024-25 budget
The Northport Public School Board of Education (BOE) approved its proposed $6 million general fund budget for the 2024-25 year at its regular meeting/ budget hearing Monday night. You can call us crazy, but here in Omena, we love our local politics. We are pleased to announce that the Omena Historical Society (OHS) is hosting its Sixth Triennial Omena Mayor Race. Qualifying candidates must be animals other than humans, and reside seasonally or full time in the Greater Omena area. Of the six Mayors to-date, five have been canines and one feline. In addition to Mayor Rosie Disch, a yellow lab mix, the Omena Village Council currently includes Vice Mayor Penny Labriola, a chicken, Press Secretary Sandra O’Day Jones, a goat, and ten canine Council members. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

Sawyer Groleau and her mother, Lisa, will attend a special pre-release premiere of “Toy Story 4 “next Thursday at the Bay Community Theatre where actor and comedian Tim Allen will appear. Allen is the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the animated film which opens nationally a day later on June 21. *** Glen Lake Superintendent Sander Scott and the Board of Education are parting ways. Scott and district leaders agreed, in the process of his annual employment evaluation Monday night, that it was in the best interest of the district to work toward a “separation agreement.” “(Monday) night, as we neared the end of my regularly scheduled and annual evaluation, it became obvious to the board and me that the district might be better served by entering into a separation agreement between myself and the district as outlined in the contract,” Scott said. “I am fully supportive of this and am a willing participant in stepping away for the health of the district. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
