Omena is all decked out for the holidays
The Village of Omena is bedecked for the holidays! About two dozen hardy people turned out to decorate the Post Office, Omena Historical Museum and the Fire Hall Saturday. It was a slightly chilly and rainy day, but not the worst weather that the annual Deck the Village event has had. 11/27/2024 08:54 AM

Suttons Bay Public School celebrated Native American Heritage Month with a special spirit week held from Nov. 18 to Nov. 22. Throughout the week, school staff and students participated in themed dress-up days and activities aimed at fostering pride, awareness, and unity. Students embraced their creativity and cultural appreciation by participating in themed days such as “Rock Your Mocs or Crocs” and “Rock Your Ribbon Skirt or Shirt.” The week also provided an opportunity to spotlight and honor the diverse Native American traditions represented within the district’s student body. 11/27/2024 08:54 AM

Abbott picks Leelanau over Santa Barbara
Professor Emeritus Porter Abbott always told his colleagues that he intended to move to northern Michigan when he retired. This would raise some eyebrows, as he was already working as a teacher in the fair climate of Santa Barbara, California, which is often seen as an ideal place for someone to settle down in their retirement years. 11/27/2024 08:54 AM

Getsinger makes her mark with Leelanau Indivisible
When Sam Getsinger was about 8 years old, her family would often visit the local theater on weekends to see its free film screenings. She generally remembers the trips fondly, but one movie stands out in her memory for provoking outrage: the story was set in an orphanage, and Getsinger remembers feeling “incensed” over the plight of the children living in it. 11/06/2024 09:18 PM
