Solution needed for Manitou dock issue
A proposed North Manitou Island dock is treading water before it’s built. Whether from the vantage point of a backpacker, history buff or taxpayer, it’s becoming obvious that engineers designing the dock and Great Lakes captains who will place the safety of their passengers in its care need to iron out their differences.

Wessell contributes to life
To the editor: I can’t think of anyone who has contributed more to improve the quality of life in Leelanau Township than Ty Wessell. He has been our school superintendent and our commissioner to the Leelanau County Board.

Go Empire!
To the editor: The Village of Empire is lucky to have Karen Baja, Dave Taghon, and Diana Oberschulte, who hosted an outdoor Empire candidate forum earlier this month. Empire has seven people running for three Trustee seats; the chance to get to know the candidates is challenging.

‘Andma’ is reporter’s favorite role
I’ve played a number of roles in my life. Sister, student, journalist, daughter, wife, mother… But I believe my favorite role to date is that of grandmother or what my granddaughters call me, “Andma.” My oldest granddaughter, Michelle, AKA “Winkie,” made me an Andma for the first time.

Sleeping Bear Marathon Saturday
Ready, set, run ... through the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The Sleeping Bear Marathon hosted by Race Day Events, based in Wisconsin, takes over the Heritage Trail and Empire for most of the day Saturday.

Suttons Bay traveled to Pellston for a Saturday football game against the Hornets. The Norsemen improved to 4-1 on the season with a decisive 42-16 victory.

Glen Lake escaped East Jordan 7-6 with a thrilling victory to move to 4-1 on the season with a big Northwest Conference win Friday. The Lakers knew it was going to be a tough game and it turned into a four-quarter brawl.
