In the last conference race of the season, Glen Lake and Leland cross country teams traveled to Benzie for a competitive jamboree, with strong performances across the board. Momentum appears to be gaining for Northport to become the first municipality in Leelanau County to allow medical- marijuana facilities. At its regular meeting Oct. 3, Northport Village Council approved scheduling a special meeting for 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Leelanau Township Fire Department’s fire hall to consider voting on a medical-marijuana opt-in ordinance. *** County Clerk Michelle Crocker and the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners appear to be at odds with Sheriff Mike Borkovich about funding for a program the sheriff instituted earlier this year to recognize citizens for doing good deeds. The county board last month declined to pay a roughly $500 bill for “tokens” the sheriff ’s office bought that were to be presented to citizens who may have exhibited extraordinary acts of kindness or community service such as rendering aid at an accident scene or assisting during an investigation. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM
