Vote ‘no’ on millage
Vote ‘no’ on millage
To the editor: It will be up to voters to stop the rapid expansion and spending of the Leelanau County democratically controlled board of commissioners. Voters will have their first opportunity in the August primary election by voting “no” on an unneeded Parenting Communities Millage being advertised as the “children’s millage.” The board has an extra $1.1 million in property tax income that so far has not been budgeted. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM
Discussions in public
Discussions in public
To the editor: At a Board of Commissioner meeting a county attorney explained that commissioners must hold their discussions in front of the public. This is a basic part of open government, because if commissioners talk among themselves outside of the meeting citizens don’t have a chance to participate in the decision-making process. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM

Rain brings back memories of Mom
I moved to Traverse City for work in April 2023, so this has been the second time I’ve watched Leelanau County’s cherry trees blossom. It’s been wonderful watching the buds on the trees diffuse into what seem to be fluffy clouds rolling over the hills. I wish the trees wouldn’t shed their white petals so quickly and I could see them reflected in the water from across Suttons Bay all summer. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM

Changes coming along Leland River
The shores of the blue-green Leland River are undergoing a transition for the first time in years. Already gone is a MDNR dock built in 2009 that hid 96 feet of shoreline. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM

The association has opened four new wash stations around Lake Leelanau to combat the ever-looming threat of invasive species. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM
