Sweet cherries nearly ripe

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Cedar Polka Fest in jeopardy
A squabble over fees for use of township park land could cancel this year’s Cedar Polka Fest. Organizers of the event, the Polka Fest Foundation/Cedar Chamber of Commerce, have called foul a proposal to charge the organization money for use of the Cedar Community Park for the Polka Fest, scheduled for Aug.

Fishtown’s Art Shanty pop-ups
A hidden gem in Leland serves as a haven for art lovers every summer, featuring work from a variety of new and local artists that reserve their spot year after year. Fishtown’s Art Shanty, which is a pop-up space located in the addition off the lower level of the historic Ice House, is a place where artists, craftsmen and makers get to be a part of the Fishtown community for a week at a time from May 28 – Oct 14.

Thoreson Farm: hub for makers
The Glen Arbor Art Center’s (GAAC) main location is in the township, but they also host classes out of the old Thoreson Farm on the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. GAAC volunteers rehabilitated the 19th century farm buildings into a classroom and studio space.
