Voters to decide fate of 2 school proposals
Voters in the Suttons Bay Public School district will head to the polls Tuesday to decide the fate of a $18.34 million bond proposal for facility improvements. The bond proposal passage would allow the district to address issues related to “campus safety and security, energy utilization and management, replacement of boilers, and removal and replacement of infrastructure that is outdated, reached the end of its expected service life, or in a state of disrepair, according to Casey Petz, school superintendent. 05/01/2024 05:08 PM

Elements of democracy
Elements of democracy
To the editor: Democracy is a topic of much discussion in our daily conversations, one result of our political turmoil. Withmanyamong us sharing thoughts on the importance of and elements of democracy, it’s fitting for the Smithsonian (April/May 2024) to reveal the connection of and importance of the library to colonial education and ultimately to the support and understanding of democracy. 05/01/2024 05:08 PM

Broadband project delayed
Two years ago, Leelanau County contracted the Opelika, Alabama-based Point Broadband to provide high speed internet to “unserved” and “underserved” homes in the county by the end of 2023. Unfortunately, the project has turned into something of a debacle. About three-and-a-half months into the new year, only about 38% of the “unserved” areas are now serviceable, and the county consultant no longer seems to believe they’ll be done by the end of 2024 either. 04/24/2024 04:43 PM
