To the editor: Lisa proves her worthiness as our Leland Township Clerk day after day. Her “open door” policy and eagerness to talk to residents about their concerns is refreshing. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
Grant dollars
Grant dollars
To the editor: Contrary to rumors and candidate misrepresentations, the construction and administration of a solar project at the County Government Center would be paid for entirely through grant dollars. If the State awards Leelanau County a grant, the solar array could produce self-generated clean energy within a year and immediately bring cost savings of over $35,000 annually. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
Solar boondoggle
Solar boondoggle
To the editor: Would you accept $1,000,000 from the government for solar panels, if you then had to spend your own money to buy a fleet of EVs, install charging stations, and pay for maintenance and disposal? This promise is part of the solar project for the government center supported by Ty Wessell. Besides questionable financial and environmental benefits of solar power, switching county vehicles to EV would likely cause the total project cost to surpass any savings over time. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
Popa’s legacy
Popa’s legacy
To the editor: John Popa was a passionate critic of the solar panel project at the government center and warned it would be a significant waste of taxpayer money. The Board of Commissioners is set to vote on this costly project before the end of the month. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
Vote for Ty
Vote for Ty
To the editor: At their best, Commissioners lead by example, and this is what Ty Wessell does, consistently demonstrating qualities of decency, respect, a willingness to listen, and the flexibility needed to work together. Some of us remember the days when the Commission kept getting stuck in partisan standoff s. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM

Costs v. benefit
Costs v. benefit
To the editor: The Leelanau Co Board of Commissioners is about to vote on a solar project at the government center that costs 1 million dollars. Supporters claim the project will save 35 thousand dollars a year, however they fail to include the additional expenses required in the contract to purchase electric vehicles to replace the county’s fleet along with the cost of maintenance and charging stations. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
Conley for supervisor
Conley for supervisor
To the editor: Leelanau Township voters will elect a new board in November. In the past few years, turnover has been high for the position of township supervisor. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
Solar energy, common sense
Solar energy, common sense
To the editor: I strongly urge the Leelanau Board of Commissioners to move forward in adopting solar energy at the Leelanau County Government Center - especially if the county has the good fortune of receiving a state grant to cover the cost. My husband and I installed solar panels 5 years ago at our home in Glen Arbor Township and are extremely happy with their performance. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
A win for all
A win for all
To the editor: Kama has been an activist and a fighter for the people. She reaches across the aisle coming to compromises with board members that results in 6-1 or 7-0 votes on critical issues. 09/25/2024 04:23 PM
