‘Too many cooks …ruin the sauce’
Without a doubt the most important duty state lawmakers have is to ride herd on the state budget with oodles of your money in play...$83 billion oodles in fact. With 148 legislators in the house and senate, not everyone has a direct hands-on assignment under the heading, “too many cooks could ruin the sauce.” The heavy lifting, instead, goes to the 19 senators and 29 house members who reside on the appropriations committees. 07/24/2024 03:46 PM
Volunteers praised
Volunteers praised
To the editor Leelanau County, you outdid yourself. Through the years a looseknit group of governments, organizations and volunteers have planted thousands of bluegills in Kids Fishing Pond, the gemstone of Veronica Valley County Park. 07/24/2024 03:46 PM

Thank you
To the editor: Knowing that there are two sides to every story, with the truth being somewhere near the middle, I feel a need to share some ten years of observing a man I have always held a lot of respect for. For approximately 10 of my 32 years in education, I worked under the principalship of a man who was, and still is, in my opinion, extremely knowledgeable, more than supportive, fair in his dealings with you, truly interested in you, both as an employee and a person, fair in his evaluations, offering both constructive criticism and praise, someone who seeks to make things better for the common good, a man who gives tirelessly of himself in endeavors he undertakes. 07/24/2024 03:46 PM

Running Bear thanks
To the editor: Despite the rainy morning, we had 630 runners in the 17th annual Running Bear Run — 545 in the 5K and 85 in the children’s run. Thanks to the Glen Lake community for its support of the run with special thanks to our major sponsors: Cherry Republic, Cottonseed, Crystal River Outfitters Recreational District, Fleet Feet, Glen Arbor Bed & Breakfast, The Homestead, LVR Realty, McCardel Culligan, Northwood Hardware Home and Garden, Sleeping Bear Inn, Sleeping Bear Visitors Bureau and 32 merchants who contributed prizes for the raffle. 07/24/2024 03:46 PM
Kramer ‘ill-suited’
Kramer ‘ill-suited’
To the editor: The audacity of Commissioner Jamie Kramer projecting her very own failures as a public servant onto Commissioner Ty Wessell, a true servant-leader, only highlights how ill-suited she was for her position as a Leelanau Commissioner. And, with regard to Commissioner Melinda Lautner, it’s entirely laughable that she would support Kramer’s questionable narrative of her experience on the Commission. 07/24/2024 03:46 PM

To the editor: The Glen Lake Woman’s Club’s Art Fair was a success, thanks to generous community support. Bay Area Transportation Authority drivers shuttled vendors to and from remote parking areas. 07/24/2024 03:46 PM
