Demolition of the iconic Bluebird Restaurant and Tavern in Leland is underway
Demolition of the iconic Bluebird Restaurant and Tavern in Leland is underway, the first step in many for the redevelopment of the facility and nearby property. The project, planned by Skip and Lynn Telgard, includes a large patio with 100 outdoor spaces and indoor seating to accomodate another 100. It is expected to be completed by late 2024.

Report diagnoses malaise among staff
The wait was over on Wednesday as John Scholten, regional president of the Michigan Leadership Institute, presented the results of the organizational culture survey that the board of commissioners hired him to prepare in November. Almost every seat in the large board of commissioners meeting room was occupied by members of the public and staff from many county departments.

Members of the Leland Township Fire & Rescue (LTFR), Leelanau Township Fire Department, Elmwood Township Fire Department, and The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office attended a presentation on Energy Storage Systems, battery-powered electric vehicle incidents, and lithium-ion battery fires.

Northport BOE reelects board officers
The Northport Public School board of education (BOE) approved reelecting the same board officers for the 2024 years at its organizational and regular board meeting Monday night. Ben P. Purdy will continue serving as BOE president with his term set to expire in 2028, while Barbara Conley was reelected as board vice president, with her term expiring in 2026.

Davis appointed to foundation board
Kira Davis, a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, is one of four recently appointed board members for the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. Davis joined the National Parks Conservation Association in 2022, a national bipartisan nonprofit formed over 100 years ago to protect our National Parks.
