Empire Lions Club auction set for August 11
Not much happening right now folks, the Empire Lions Club Anchor Day Chicken Dinner was the normal huge success although it was moved from the Townhall to Johnson Park. Some people were confused and some people didn’t know where Johnson Park was, which is hard to believe nonetheless the lions sold a lot of chicken and dinners and there were are a lot of very happy people eating enjoying the dinner.

Lucky Diablo Bosco wins the mayor’s race
The results are in, and the new Mayor is…the horse, of course! Congratulations to Lucky Diablo Bosco, and to his owner, Missy Bosco. Brother and sister cats, Topsy and Turvy Stephenson, will be sharing responsibilities as co-Vice Mayors, thanks to the campaigning of their human, Cathy Stephenson. Kanda and Harold McKee’s 1-year old cat, Porsche, will be learning the political ropes in Omena as Deputy Vice Mayor. These positions go to the top three vote-getters. Congratulations also to Emmie Tomlinson and Ruby Emmert, and their owners, Cindy and Thad Tomlinson, and Lin Emmert, who completed the top five list. All of the candidates are members of the 2021-2024 Omena Village Council.

The Leelanau Enterprise has earned 26 awards in the National Newspaper Association’s Editorial and Advertising Contest. The contest is open to all newspapers in the country.

Hartesvelt named finance director
Leelanau County’s interim administrator, Richard Lewis, said Tuesday that Cathy Hartesvelt has been hired as permanent finance director, after she served as interim finance director for almost nine months. She has been department head since the last permanent director, Sean Cowan, left the county in October 2023.
