ELEANOR VALKNER
Glen Lake senior Eleanor Valkner earned this week’s Enterprise athlete of the week after two dominant performances. Valkner couldn’t be stopped against Kingsley as she scored 16 points and grabbed 19 rebounds last week. Valkner continued to roll against Leland on Tuesday with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Suttmanns head to Houston for Michigan game
Hail to the victors! The Suttmann family witnessed history on Monday night as Michigan defeated Washington in the College Football Playoff National Championship game 34-13 in Houston to capture the Wolverine's first national championship since 1997. “As you might expect it was a once in a lifetime feeling and experience,” Logan Suttmann said.

The only other prep sporting event over the break featured two Glen Lake girls wrestlers competing at Montague Friday. Glen Lake junior Emily Alaimo and freshman Peace Hawley-Joppich competed for the Lakers to end 2023.

Muldowney 51 years officiating
When Mike Muldowney arrives on the basketball court it’s all business for the referee that’s been calling local sporting events on all levels for over 50 years. Muldowney started refereeing at the age of 19, and basketball quickly became his favorite sport to call.

Every high school coaches’ hope is to instill a love of the game of volleyball, according to Leland coach Laurie Glass. “Whether it’s informally playing in your backyard, later in life, joining a co-ed team, doing beach volleyball or playing at the collegiate level (the hope) is just continuing that love of the game and keeping it in your life,” Glass said.

Comets bounce Bear Lake
Leland boys basketball defeated Bear Lake 65-48 in a statement win before heading into winter break. Leland guard Brady Keen led all scorers with 18 points as the Comets were unstoppable.
