Are you aware?
Are you aware?
To the editor: Are you aware that the Commissioners voted to apply for a $1.5 million grant to construct solar panels? Due to limited space, they are wrongly planned to install these panels above parked cars and law enforcement vehicles…11ft or more in the air! Really? Our County will have to fork over $1 million to install this fiasco, in addition to weeks of labor and administration. Sure, it is planned to be reimbursed in a few years by the grant…if and when all the documentation of labor, administration, materials, contracts, etc. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM
Janik right man to help
Janik right man to help
To the Editor: I agree with the County’s Board decision to bring back Chet Janik to provide both help and guidance in finding our next County Administrator. During his tenure, I did serve several times on the County Planning Commission, and Chet often had both advice and very useful help when needed. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM
So much winning
So much winning
To the editor: In 2016, Trump lost the popular vote by nearly 3 points. In 2018, Republicans lost both the House and Senate. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM
Different points of view
Different points of view
To the editor: A couple looks at how we see so far apart. One side sees the Earth 4.5 billion years old, the other 6,000 years old. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM

Open Carry Prohibition at Polling and Counting Places
To the editor: Two new bills, HB 4127 and HB 4128 are moving through the Michigan Legislature with a sure bet they will land on Governor Whitmer’s desk soon... and she will likely sign them into law. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM
Saving Seventh Street for Seven Generations
Saving Seventh Street for Seven Generations
To the editor: Years ago, the State of Michigan gave the Village of Northport about six acres of mostly wooded land near Grand Traverse Bay to be used for recreational purposes. As the Village Council is considering the future of this small parcel on Seventh Street, the entire world is at a tipping point regarding stewardship of our environment. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM
What are your expectations?
What are your expectations?
To the editor: Republicans: Let’s see if I’ve got this straight...you’re okay with Trump’s extra-curricular activities; his disdain for laws and rules; his blatant lies and verbal insults. Right? What this tells me is you don’t think it’s important for the President of the United States to have a strong, moral compass; defend and preserve the Constitution; and believe in the Ten Commandments. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM

Uncommitted votes weigh heavy
You’ve probably heard of the $100,000 Pyramid on TV. But you’ve never heard of the 100,000 Vote Pyramid that Joe Biden and Donald Trump have to climb and failure to do so could cost them the White House. 03/06/2024 05:30 PM
Save the wine and food festival
Save the wine and food festival
With the cancellation of the 2024 Leland wine and food festival finally a reality, the thought of not being able to raise a glass at this local function is a chink in the armor of summer plans. For more than 30 years, the Leland Wine and Food Festival served as a pillar of Leelanau County’s wine industry that brings visitors in from far and wide to taste what Leelanau vintages have to offer. 02/28/2024 04:44 PM
Check your facts first
Check your facts first
To the editor: I have served as District 5 Leelanau County Commissioner for 14 months now and I am continuously disheartened by public comment at county meetings and letters to the editor from county residents who do not check their facts before sharing their views. Please, do your homework. 02/28/2024 04:44 PM
NATO should have accepted Ukraine
NATO should have accepted Ukraine
To the editor: If NATO would have accepted Ukraine into the organization before the beginning of the Russian invasions or even after, the war would be short-lived. A loan to Ukraine could have been made in good faith by all of NATO, instead of money and lives spent fighting. 02/28/2024 04:44 PM
Abandonment and appeasement
Abandonment and appeasement
To the editor: Abandonment and appeasement are words never associated with our nation. Trump, supported by his followers, recently stated that he would abandon Ukraine and our NATO allies to appease Putin. 02/28/2024 04:44 PM
