Advice for letter writers
Advice for letter writers
Many of us are looking forward to the 2024 election season with something approaching dread — not just at potential outcomes, but at having to endure months of nastiness as increasingly polarized Americans claw at each other on TV, on social media and in newspapers. And yes, it has reached the pages of the Enterprise as well. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM

The sweet memories of intergenerational living
Celebrating my mother’s birthday this past weekend — which had us both enjoying sunny skies via a scenic Frankfort drive to view Lake Michigan in all its glory — was a reminder that one of the most important things that I can share with her is time. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
‘Disdains the rule of law
‘Disdains the rule of law
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich stood onstage beside a twiceimpeached ex-president (not convicted), who’s accused of sexual abuse and financial fraud, who attacks judges and prosecutors, who allowed police to be bloodied by his insurrectionists, who disdains the rule of law. To this lawless figure, Leelanau’s top lawman lends his tacit endorsement. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
‘Bludgeoned with flagpoles’
‘Bludgeoned with flagpoles’
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich, as a selfproclaimed “ constitutional sheriff” you chose to be photographed with a presidential candidate who has stated he would “terminate” parts of the constitution. What parts of the constitution are you OK with terminating? Should the 12th amendment go? The one Congress was trying to fulfill when Trump incited a riot at the Capitol to stop the Electoral college count? What about the 140 injuries sustained by your brothers in blue while defending the Capitol — bludgeoned with flagpoles, assaulted with bear spray, repeatedly shocked with electric cattle prods, gas masks ripped off. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
‘Protecting borders not political’
‘Protecting borders not political’
To the editor: Protecting our borders is an American issue, not political. I’m grateful for Sheriff Borkovich’s attendance at the Grand Rapids rally. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
American values ending
American values ending
To the editor: Traditional American values are ending, thanks to Joe Biden. His administration is responsible for opening borders with subsequent drug-related deaths; turning schools into indoctrination centers for woke ideology; opposing gasoline and natural gas as fuels; pacifying enemies Iran and China; calling violent crime understandable as a sign of social justice; reworking the justice system to punish political opponents; supporting a biased media; wiping out meritocracy as a standard for excellence; weakening American families with transgenderism and blurring classic roles of fathers and mothers; increasing the national debt to 35 trillion; encouraging inflation; and attacking the 2nd Amendment. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
‘Dumbfounded’
‘Dumbfounded’
To the editor: I was dumbfounded to see Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich standing—in full uniform— behind Trump in Grand Rapids last week, in multiple photos and videos. I wondered: Was the Sheriff on the clock and driving a county-owned vehicle to stand behind a man who did not support the Capitol Police on January 6, 2021? I was astonished to read “Sheriff Takes Stage with Trump” in the Enterprise, including his rationale—immigration law. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
Thanks to Biden
Thanks to Biden
To the editor: In 1945, as World War II ended, the economy shifted from war time to peace time while returning GIs looked for jobs. Inflation skyrocketed. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM

‘Vile rhetoric’
‘Vile rhetoric’
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich saw fit to stand with ex-president Trump while he launched into his usual migrant hate speech. Leelanau’s 4% Hispanic population must be appalled to see their sheriff stand by while they are denigrated by Trump. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
‘Wickedness must end’
‘Wickedness must end’
To the editor: A Center for Medical Progress public record request recently revealed that Planned Parenthood supplies aborted body parts to the University of California at San Diego in exchange for ownership of patents and other intellectual property resulting from their use. Last month The Daily Mail reported on a new nurse’s discovery of an aborted baby hopelessly fighting for life: “There lay a tiny baby boy, blinking, covered in mucus, blood and amniotic fluid, gasping for breath, his little arms and legs twitching.” How much more of abortion’s wickedness are we going to tolerate? ‘Vacation day?’
‘Vacation day?’
To the editor: I note that Leelanau County’s Sheriff must have taken a vacation day to attend Trump’s liefest in Grand Rapids on Tuesday. Someone should check to be sure he didn’t use a County vehicle to get there and that he DID take a vacation day for his time away from his duties. 04/10/2024 03:54 PM
