To the editor: I’m often awed watching my 3-year-old grandson play; sometimes it feels like I can “see” his brain working! In fact, I am witnessing his developing brain! Research says the biggest growth spurt of the human brain is during the first 1,000 days of life — that’s when the most-used neural pathways are strengthened and those not used are pruned. To the editor: Unbelievably, and in a break from past practices, local senior citizens were denied their right to obtain political and volunteer information from both Republicans and Democrats at last Tuesday’s Senior Expo held at Suttons Bay High School. The Expo promised to “bring in over 100 vendors showcasing the latest in information, resources, products, and services; giving you the tools to live a full life as you age.” The Republicans and Democrats were kicked out of the Expo, and school policy was given as the reason, even though it is nearly impossible to imagine that a school in Leelanau County has an anti-free speech policy. 06/19/2024 04:23 PM

The Hamptons?

To the editor: Is Leland Township ready to become the “Hamptons” of the Midwest according to the Delamar Hotel in TC? Are we ready for helicopter tours starting June 15 from the Delamar Hotel, buzzing their wealthy guests around Leland to look over our beautiful serene setting? Never mind the noise of a chopper hovering along the Lake Michigan coastline admiring the Hampton like qualities of the homes there, it’s part of the fun of being the Hamptons!! Ignore the sound and interruption of our peaceful ambiance as a helicopter drops in for a landing at the Dunebird Winery on what was stated to be a private, personal landing strip. Enjoy the sound and vibrations of the helicopter as it roars to full power on takeoff as it journey’s on to show its well heeled patrons how the rest of us live. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
