With thanks
Thank you volunteers, the Northport Community Band, pilots, car buffs, Northport EMS and a very giving community. The annual Northport Lions Club Breakfast Fly-In, held at Woolsey Airport Saturday, was by all measurement a great fund-raising event.

Fly In/Drive In pancakes a hit
I want to thank and compliment the Northport Lions Club on the terrific Fly In/Drive In Pancake Breakfast that was held today (first Saturday in August) at Woolsey Airport north of Northport. There was a great crowd, many vintage cars and lots of planes of all kinds. Every person in attendance seemed to have a smile on their face and there were many pilots who expressed that Woolsey Airport is their favorite airport in Michigan. The runways are well maintained by Leelanau Township and there is no more iconic airport terminal than the stone building that was built as a creamery and now serves as the terminal. The SWAT! (Save Woolsey Airport Terminal) group had an information table where visitors could learn the history of the airport and the man it honors. Donations were also being accepted toward the repairs that are desperately needed to keep the terminal standing. If you haven’t had a chance to donate to save the terminal, donations are being accepted by the Leelanau Township Community Foundation SWAT fund. They are a 501(c)(3).

Where has civility gone?
While seating with my 8 yeqr old granddaughter on on the patio of our home on Lake Leelanau, she wondered what the flag attached to a bright yellow speed boat said. The boat was motoring from the south end of the lake due north and the flag read “F... Biden”.

Only in Leelanau
Last Wednesday I stopped at my favorite roadside vegetable/ fruit stand on Overlook Rd and M22 for sweet corn, squash and late harvest sweet cherries. I made my purchase, loaded my items into my car and drove to myNorthporthome. Anhour later the doorbell rang. Standing at my door was the owner of that stand. I had left my billfold on the table. He was bringing it home to me, fully in tact, before I even knew it was missing! Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your wonderful produce. Suzanne Landes Northport

‘Urgent message’
To the editor: If you need urgent care you won’t find and in Leelanau County. Munson hospital has satellite clinics around the area, but no in Leelanau County.

Fair journalism
To the editor: Regarding John Elchert’s opinion piece, the headline should have been “Democracy needs FAIR journalism” (addition of FAIR mine). And then our Leelanau Enterprise Publisher might have spoken about his plans to make that happen at the paper.

Jet skis a nuisance
To the editor: Jet skis are banned at the Lakeshore and at the Homestead. Yet a small handful of selfish, irresponsible people launch from Glen Arbor and go back and forth on the lake.

Volunteers praised
To the editor Leelanau County, you outdid yourself. Through the years a looseknit group of governments, organizations and volunteers have planted thousands of bluegills in Kids Fishing Pond, the gemstone of Veronica Valley County Park.

Thank you
To the editor: Knowing that there are two sides to every story, with the truth being somewhere near the middle, I feel a need to share some ten years of observing a man I have always held a lot of respect for. For approximately 10 of my 32 years in education, I worked under the principalship of a man who was, and still is, in my opinion, extremely knowledgeable, more than supportive, fair in his dealings with you, truly interested in you, both as an employee and a person, fair in his evaluations, offering both constructive criticism and praise, someone who seeks to make things better for the common good, a man who gives tirelessly of himself in endeavors he undertakes.

Challenge of inflation
To the editor: Inflation is a pain. As a policy issue, correcting inflation without damage to the overall economy is challenging.

Running Bear thanks
To the editor: Despite the rainy morning, we had 630 runners in the 17th annual Running Bear Run — 545 in the 5K and 85 in the children’s run. Thanks to the Glen Lake community for its support of the run with special thanks to our major sponsors: Cherry Republic, Cottonseed, Crystal River Outfitters Recreational District, Fleet Feet, Glen Arbor Bed & Breakfast, The Homestead, LVR Realty, McCardel Culligan, Northwood Hardware Home and Garden, Sleeping Bear Inn, Sleeping Bear Visitors Bureau and 32 merchants who contributed prizes for the raffle.

Kramer ‘ill-suited’
To the editor: The audacity of Commissioner Jamie Kramer projecting her very own failures as a public servant onto Commissioner Ty Wessell, a true servant-leader, only highlights how ill-suited she was for her position as a Leelanau Commissioner. And, with regard to Commissioner Melinda Lautner, it’s entirely laughable that she would support Kramer’s questionable narrative of her experience on the Commission.
