‘Close the loop’
To the editor: Each morning on Leelanau Peninsula I rejoice having the opportunity to steward God’s Creation and reflect on Genesis 2:15 “The Lord God took the man and settled him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to take care of it.” In February, the Center for Climate Integrity published “Fraud of Plastic Recycling,” an informative, comprehensive, credible and useful report on a topic that needs to be clarified, and states: “Big Oil and the plastics industry — which includes petrochemical companies, their trade associations, and the front groups that represent their interests—should be held accountable for their campaign of deception much like the producers of tobacco, opioids, and toxic chemicals that engaged in similar schemes. This report lays the foundation for such a claim.” Our food system uses plastic packaging extensively and the report outlines the issue, yet it’s for us to take necessary actions engaging with our grocers (Meijer, Tom’s Food, Hansen Foods, etc.) to advocate for closing the loop on plastic packaging in our food system and accept washed plastic food bags and containers.

Proposal A a ‘failure’
To the editor: Yes, our property tax values are rising. I question why so many are quick to blame the current administration for this ...“stubbornly high inflation.” Some could just as easily blame the administration of Governor John Engler and his political party because Proposition ‘A’ was their big idea in the first place.

Month of the Young Child
To the editor: In April, we celebrate the Month of the Young Child. Along with the other 11 months, parents, grandparents and other caregivers are on 24/7 providing care for their little ones.

Watch the video
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich says the only reason he traveled to Grand Rapids was to discuss border issues with Donald Trump. No, watch the video.

Support for Sheriff
To the editor: The Michigan Police Association was invited by a presidential candidate to discuss crime. The Biden Administration has not done that.

‘Price to Pay’
To the editor: Inflation is not higher prices, inflation causes higher prices. Inflation is the result of expanding the money supply faster than expanding goods and services.

‘Disappointing’
To the editor: How disappointing to see our sheriff, who has done such a great job patrolling Leelanau County, on a political stage with a man who sent his supporters to the U.S .Capitol to pound on and beat up U.S. Capitol POLICE OFFICERS.

Travel not at U.S. expense
To the editor: Ms. Jones, in her Thursday 4 April letter to the editor, is incorrect in describing the immigrants flown into our country as illegal aliens as they have a sponsor in the U.S., have passed biometric and biographical vetting and have work permits.

‘Disdains the rule of law
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich stood onstage beside a twiceimpeached ex-president (not convicted), who’s accused of sexual abuse and financial fraud, who attacks judges and prosecutors, who allowed police to be bloodied by his insurrectionists, who disdains the rule of law. To this lawless figure, Leelanau’s top lawman lends his tacit endorsement.

‘Bludgeoned with flagpoles’
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich, as a selfproclaimed “ constitutional sheriff” you chose to be photographed with a presidential candidate who has stated he would “terminate” parts of the constitution. What parts of the constitution are you OK with terminating? Should the 12th amendment go? The one Congress was trying to fulfill when Trump incited a riot at the Capitol to stop the Electoral college count? What about the 140 injuries sustained by your brothers in blue while defending the Capitol — bludgeoned with flagpoles, assaulted with bear spray, repeatedly shocked with electric cattle prods, gas masks ripped off.

‘Protecting borders not political’
To the editor: Protecting our borders is an American issue, not political. I’m grateful for Sheriff Borkovich’s attendance at the Grand Rapids rally.

American values ending
To the editor: Traditional American values are ending, thanks to Joe Biden. His administration is responsible for opening borders with subsequent drug-related deaths; turning schools into indoctrination centers for woke ideology; opposing gasoline and natural gas as fuels; pacifying enemies Iran and China; calling violent crime understandable as a sign of social justice; reworking the justice system to punish political opponents; supporting a biased media; wiping out meritocracy as a standard for excellence; weakening American families with transgenderism and blurring classic roles of fathers and mothers; increasing the national debt to 35 trillion; encouraging inflation; and attacking the 2nd Amendment.
