Support for young/seniors
Support for young/seniors
To the editor: Caring for an aging spouse or parent or a young child is challenging. Sometimes family or friends do not have answers to the tricky questions of dementia/ Alzheimer’s or cannot fully assess a toddler’s development. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM

Support Grant
To the editor: Jennifer Grant has my support for Leelanau County Register of Deeds in the August Primary Election. Experience counts! Integrity and accuracy are valuable traits she continually demonstrates, which are so necessary in land records management. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
Giver… not a taker
Giver… not a taker
To the editor: I’d like to comment on last week’s letter to the editor titled “Walks the Walk” written by Steve Gilbreath about the community involvement activities of Kama Ross. Not only is Kama currently involved in the Northport music scene and on the county commissioners board, she also has served in the Peace Corps and a host of other activities too long to mention in her earlier years. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
Kudos to Mawby
Kudos to Mawby
To the editor: I read with great interest Larry Mawby’s efforts to establish affordable housing in Suttons Bay. Housing young people can afford is one of the greatest priorities I can name regarding the future of our community. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
Reelect Ross
Reelect Ross
To the editor: I am thrilled that Kama Ross is running to continue her service as a Leelanau County Commissioner for District 5. Considering all the volunteer activities she has done and continues to do for our community, she is clearly a human dynamo! I do not know how she finds time for it all. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM

State duties, family duties collide
We pause in our thrilling episode of trying to write the new $80 billion state budget before a self-imposed June 30 deadline, to dive into a topic that seldom gets any media attention because who really cares about the personal family sacrifices made by elected officeholders? 06/19/2024 04:23 PM
Threat to democracy
Threat to democracy
To the editor: Political and media messages exclaim be afraid of immigrants, that what you value will be taken away, and conspiracies: all needing a strongman to set things right. My “beach read”, Dame Mary Beard’s (PhD.) book, “The Emperor of Rome”, illustrates how a 500-year-old republic falls to a strongman claiming he can set things right, with the Roman Senators acting as, “cowards and flatterers who readily traded their freedom for wealth and political success” and supported the Caesars. 06/19/2024 04:23 PM
‘Yes’ to senior millage
‘Yes’ to senior millage
To the editor: I am urging all voters to vote “YES” to renew the Leelanau County Senior millage on the August 6th primary ballot. This is a renewal that will not raise your taxes but will continue to support 2,548 seniors that received services last year and thatnumberisgrowing. 06/19/2024 04:23 PM
Grass removal by herd
Grass removal by herd
To the editor: Massachusetts has been developing a lot of small and large solar field displays. But when the grass grows tall, it can block the sun from the solar panels. 06/19/2024 04:23 PM
Support Childhood millage
Support Childhood millage
To the editor: As a Licensed Professional Counselor with 40 years of experience working with children and adolescents, I believe that Early Childhood Development, age 0 through 5 is the most critical stage of development and forms the foundation for a child’s future, well being and ability to learn. Ninety percent of brain growth occurs after birth but before kindergarten. 06/19/2024 04:23 PM
Vote Republican
Vote Republican
To the editor: This election vote early for the former president who took no pay, not the guy who launders dirty foreign cash through 23 shell companies. Whose DOJ authorized deadly force raiding the home of his political opponent. 06/19/2024 04:23 PM
