Grateful for efforts
To the editor: I wish to thank Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, Wessell, Ross, Allgaier, and Kramer, for their service on the Board. Thank you is not adequate to express my gratitude for the dedicated, challenging, and often continuous work you do for ALL citizens of the Leelanau County.

Board challenged
To the editor: Good News! For most of 2023, I think that our Board of Commissioners had acted in a bipartisan, pragmatic way. They had put aside politics and worked well together to get their work done under sometimes difficult conditions.

Merger is positive step
To the editor: Merging the Administrator and CFO positions, as reported by the Enterprise, is a positive step towards addressing the organizational instability caused by the May 2021 Board vote. While some may question the timing or reasoning behind the merger, it offers a clearer line of responsibility and accountability for financial planning and administration.

Time to move on
To the editor: I attended the Leelanau Voting Commission’s public meeting to demonstrate how voting machines are tested to ensure that our votes are tabulated accurately and securely. The process is mandated by state law.

Pause trail extension
To the editor: In the pursuit of extending the Heritage Trail, we need to stop and consider the end cost of thisgoal. Climatechange has detrimental effects on all of us, and this extension defies our battle against it.

Border laws defined
To the editor: The “border security” legislation being attempted by big business influenced U.S. Senators is anti-American and would do nothing but encourage more border illegality.

Contact your Congressman
To the editor: Congressman Bergman takes pride in 40 years of military service and having retired from the Marine Corp as a lieutenant general. Congressman Bergman is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

Lane change
To the editor: I was once again offended, but not surprised, at Commissioner Lautner’s response to the results of the County employee culture survey. The survey identified serious deficiencies in the work culture and specifically called out Commissioner Lautner’s contribution to the problems.

SOS website has answers
To the editor: K.L. Kawecki expressed concern that 116% of eligible voters are registered to vote in Leelanau County and suggested that the group promoting this figure should be taken more seriously.

Tree removal ‘reprehensible’
To the editor: In a letter published in last week’s Enterprise, an author wrote in favor of the current proposed routing of Segment 9 of the SBHT. His arguments are reprehensible, short-sighted, and out-of-date.

Invest in ‘affordable’ housing
To the editor: Do we want the most beautiful natural sites and farmland in Leelanau County to be scooped up by international and out-ofstate buyers, who see our natural resources as their cash cow? We want people living here year-round, investing in the county, its residents and businesses. Putting down roots.

Transparency needed
To the editor: While we were pleased the Enterprise called for releasing the raw data from the recent Cultural Survey, we are disappointed that our paper of record doesn’t seem interested in investigating why commission Kama Ross exchanged 1,250 emails with county employees about the survey. What could such a volume of communication be for? Thank you — Melinda Lautner — for your courage in demanding answers through a Freedom of Information Act request.
