Make America Great Again. Really?
To the editor: In her new book “Attack From Within,” University of Michigan law professor Barbara McQuaid writes: “Make America Great Again implies a wish to return to what some may consider the good old days, when white men were dominant, women were subservient, and people of color were pushed to the lower rungs of society.” No thanks. President Biden closed his recent State of the Union Address with this: “The issue facing our nation is not how old we are, it’s how old are our ideas.

Humans … devalued
To the editor: Fervent Democrat support for abortion, including late term, continues to ignore an inconvenient truth: abortion stops a beating heart. We must not follow Satanist Aleister Crowley’s dictate, “Do what thou wilt!” Instead, we should adhere to basic humanity, guided by Jesus’ teachings of love and compassion for human life, even when that requires great personal sacrifice.

Disturbing
To the editor: While visiting our children and grandchildren in Texas, imagine my disappointment to see two Leelanau leaders standing behind Donald Trump in Grand Rapids. Both Representative Bergman and Sheriff Borkovich were standing in support of the former president as he spoke cruel and incendiary words about human beings who are risking their lives to reach safety in the United States of America.

Threat to democracy
To the editor: The plethora of letters in the Enterprise that continue to warn of political hate-laced speech, discordant rhetoric, dictatorship, and threats to truth are convoluted and ill-informed. In a recent CNN interview, speaking from experience, Robert F.

Excuses
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich calls people who disagree with him and express those opinions via our First Amendment rights, haters? Is that right? Many residents were upset that he appeared with Trump, in uniform, tacitly endorsing his violent rhetoric aimed at immigrants, representing Leelanau County. A real leader, would give a more thoughtful response to this criticism.

Courage, not bluster
To the editor: An unexpected blessing of the January 6th hearings is that it gave young people two shining examples of political courage, Congresswoman Liz Cheney who co-chaired the Committee and White House Assistant Cassidy Hutchinson (age 27) who testified before it. Both Republicans, they were fully aware of what they could expect from the fury of Trump Republicans, including the onslaught of hate mail and death threats that they were about to receive.

‘Borkovich dedicated’
To the editor: My father is a retired Police officer who often served numerous political officials whether he agreed with them or not. His duty, like Sheriff Borkovich, was always to the people he represented and not to one political party.

‘Never again’
To the editor: I reject the COVID amnesty that some have suggested. Instead, we must never forget the forced mRNA (including children with virtually no risk), job terminations, and neighbor shaming where hostility were variously foisted on citizens who would not accept a largely untested vaccine, or who otherwise had religious objections.

‘Constitutional Sheriff’
To the editor: Leelanau County deserves a better Sheriff. Someone who is focused on law enforcement, not political grandstanding.

‘Dismayed’
To the editor: We were dismayed to see sheriff Mike Borkovich standing next to former President Trump at the rally in Grand Rapids. Leelanau County supported President Joe Biden in the last election.

‘Poor judgment’
To the editor: As an individual, Sheriff Mike Borkovich is welcome to privately support the candidate of his choice. What is unwelcome is that he chose to be photographed in the Leelanau County Sheriff’s uniform publicly showing support for candidate Trump.

‘Vacation day?’
To the editor: I note that Leelanau County’s Sheriff must have taken a vacation day to attend Trump’s liefest in Grand Rapids on Tuesday. Someone should check to be sure he didn’t use a County vehicle to get there and that he DID take a vacation day for his time away from his duties.
