Living in the real world
To the editor: A writer suggests “Biden is a man who wakes up every day trying to do the right thing for the American people.” The only accurate part of this is “wakes up.” Since Biden took office, fuel prices skyrocketed, food costs soared, and American families are struggling to survive. Student debt relief? That consists of hardworking taxpayers financing debt taken on by others.

Hardly a landslide
To the editor: The primary season is likely to get busier before it gets better, but I would like to point out that during the Iowa caucus only 15% of the state’s registered Republicans turned out, and of them only 51% caucused for Trump* (CBS, 1/16/24). Hardly a landslide.

6 bankruptcies
To the editor: Facebook is always asking... What’s on my mind?...Well the state of our country and my puzzlement at who the GOP wants to be their choice for presidential candidacy...

Do your job with ‘grace’
To the editor: Letters to the editor attacking personnel committee chair, commissioner Ross are meant to divert attention from the “toxic” label put on commissioner Lautner. The board of commissioners does not need “leadership training.” They desparately need a governing workshop.

Disappointing
To the editor: The headline article “Patriot group gets on agenda” (02/02/24) was misleading and disappointing. In my opinion it was written with a clear bias couched in “argumentum ad hominem.” This term usually is used to refer to a rhetorical strategy in which the writer unfavorably portrays a character, motive, or other attribute of the individual(s) making the argument, rather than addressing the argument itself.

Non-violence and common sense
To the editor: It has been three years since the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol of the United States. As a fiscal conservative Republican, I believe people who planned and participated in this assault should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Take a breath
To the editor: I think we can all agree that when employers ensure a positive work culture for their employees, everyone benefits — both employees and those they serve. So, when a number of culture-related complaints from Leelanau County employees surfaced last year, I was glad to see our Board of Commissioners act — convening a three-commissioner personnel committee, chaired by Commissioner Kama Ross, to examine the county’s work environment.

MHA vacating space
To the editor: I am writing to correct an assumption about the status of The Maritime Heritage Alliance located on M22 in Greilickville. The plan to construct a Freshwater Research Center in this location will necessitate our vacating our present shop and storage facilities as they will be torn down.

Civility is gone
To the editor: I’ve come to admire the Brits’ ability to refer to the political other as the “Loyal Opposition.” In doing so it endows the “other” with valued recognition and respect. I’m sure at times all of us have been perceived as the opposition.

Kudos to housing group
To the editor: Availability of affordable housing in Leelanau County is an ongoing issue. This is true because Leelanau County’s vibrancy requires housing here to be affordable so that folks can live, work and play here.

Trail will be an asset
To the editor: I live on Little Traverse Lake adjacent to the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. I can’t wait for the completion of the last part of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, Segment 9.

Urge Congress to act
To the editor: On January 18, 2024 a bipartisan act was passed by the United States Congress and is awaiting President Biden’s signature. It took less than three months to make it to his desk.
