Threat to democracy
Threat to democracy
To the editor: The plethora of letters in the Enterprise that continue to warn of political hate-laced speech, discordant rhetoric, dictatorship, and threats to truth are convoluted and ill-informed. In a recent CNN interview, speaking from experience, Robert F. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM

Bingham continues blight ordinance discussion
Bingham continues blight ordinance discussion
The Bingham Township Board meeting on Monday was unusually well attended as about 10 township residents were in the audience. Most of them took the opportunity to participate in the board’s ongoing discussion in a blight ordinance that would allow the township to address garbage and junk on township properties without waiting for complaints from its neighbors. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
Excuses
Excuses
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich calls people who disagree with him and express those opinions via our First Amendment rights, haters? Is that right? Many residents were upset that he appeared with Trump, in uniform, tacitly endorsing his violent rhetoric aimed at immigrants, representing Leelanau County. A real leader, would give a more thoughtful response to this criticism. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM

Protecting our water
Protecting our water
To the editor: Concerning the on sale/transfer of property septic inspections: we now have over one year of data on systems needing repair or replacement: 16% of those inspected required some improvement. Strattons Way issue addressed
Strattons Way issue addressed
Back in February, a Suttons Bay resident attended the monthly village council meeting with his two very young daughters and several of his neighbors, petitioning to change Strattons Way into a one-way street. These concerned citizens argued that fast, two-way traffic coming along this narrow road between M-204 and Concord Street could pose a danger to these children living here. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
Tax fraud reported
Tax fraud reported
Some scammers appear to be making the most of Tax Day by posing as governmental units looking to collect debts allegedly owed to the county or state in letters addressed to Leelanau County residents. One fraud attempt that was reported to the county sheriff’s office between April 10-11 threatens to impose fines, revoke social security benefits, and suspend licenses if an alleged debt numbering in the thousands of dollars goes unpaid within just a few days of the mark receiving the letter. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
