Buttigieg gets high marks for transportation work
You can’t count the times that some career politician, which the good government crowd believes is not a dirty word, has sat in that TV interview chair and at some pointed lamented about the personal family sacrifi ces one has to make to meet the all-time-consuming assignment of serving the public good and your loved-ones, too. 11/06/2024 09:18 PM
‘Grudge match’ questioned
‘Grudge match’ questioned
To the editor: We are writing in response to the recent article by Brian Freiberger regarding the presidential race in Empire. We were both insulted by the description of our campaign as a “grudge match.” Such language implies discord and animosity, which could not be further from the truth. 11/06/2024 09:18 PM
Speed limits needed
Speed limits needed
To the editor: For many years, the residents around the Glen Lakes have requested that speed limits be reduced for the safety of walkers, bikers, and drivers. With the passage of a new bill by Governor Whitmer, townships are now allowed to set those limits. 11/06/2024 09:18 PM
Thanks for ‘trunks’
Thanks for ‘trunks’
To the editor: On behalf of the Empire Area Community Center I would like to thank everyone who brought their “trunks” down to Front Street in Empire on Halloween! It was a great show of togetherness and good will with everyone having a wonderful time in support of our children in the Village and surrounding areas. Also, a big Thanks goes to the Empire Methodist Church for supplying free hot dogs, sliders and chips for everyone and to the Glen Lake Women’s Club for their great bags of treats! March Dye Empire. 11/06/2024 09:18 PM

Hunting tradition unifying force
I’ve been looking within for answers to a question that’s pertinent to fewer and fewer people. Why do I hunt? It’s a bit late in life for self-reflection on an activity that has driven much of my spare time in fall, the most beautiful of seasons. 11/06/2024 09:18 PM

Good Samaritans
Good Samaritans
To the editor: Last Monday evening we were almost home after a long day of traveling from Iowa when a deer came out from nowhere and we hit it (or rather it hit us). We were on M-22 south of Suttons Bay. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM

Cleaning ‘fridge’ cathartic for reporter
I did something last weekend. Tired of listening to political advertisements and stewing over election-related newspaper coverage, I went to my kitchen to accomplish a must-do — cleaning out the refrigerator. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM

No blow fall
No blow fall
To the editor: I want to promote a “NO BLOWFALL”. Fallenleaves provide a protective blanket for your gardens which will, over time, turn into mulch. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM

Slicing and dicing voting groups
When political races are TCTC — too close to call — the fascinating speculation is that anyone of a whole host of variables could determine the winner. That is where the state and country are as the long-awaited end to the dead heat battle between the former GOP president and current Democratic Vice President. 10/30/2024 05:31 PM
