Not so sweet

To the editor: At the Cherry Pie debate, Jim White raised an important point about rising county spending. I didn’t realize our spending has increased by nearly 30% over the past 2-1/2 years, while taxes are up almost 20%. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM

To the editor: I recently read articles on the National Park Service and the dock disputes on N. Manitou Island. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM
Vote for Wessell
Vote for Wessell
To the editor: Ty Wessell is the perfect ingredient for a Leelanau County Commissioner recipe. He is the leavening agent which enables bi-partisanship. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM
Newcomers in Empire
Newcomers in Empire
To the editor: There are three newcomers to the Village of Empire political scene. Andrew Clements (55), a young family man and business man. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM

To the editor: The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners has lost the respect it once had. To restore accountability, I urge you to vote for Al Campbell this November. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM
Campbell cares
Campbell cares
To the editor: Please vote for Al Campbell as your next county commissioner for Leelanau County. He has been a tireless volunteer for many causes including providing scholarships for both our young and adult residents, and helping handicapped people get outdoors and enjoy life. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM

To the editor: As evidence of climate-related change continues to mount — in the form of increasing floods, dropping water tables, relentless fires and even immigration — it is disturbing that the very concept of a changing climate, along with possible ways to address it, are partisan and divisive issues. We all need to be working together to create solutions that prevent or mitigate these disasters, including making informed choices in November’s elections. 10/09/2024 05:51 PM
Solution needed for Manitou dock issue
Solution needed for Manitou dock issue
A proposed North Manitou Island dock is treading water before it’s built. Whether from the vantage point of a backpacker, history buff or taxpayer, it’s becoming obvious that engineers designing the dock and Great Lakes captains who will place the safety of their passengers in its care need to iron out their differences. 10/02/2024 06:25 PM
Decisions… consequences
Decisions… consequences
To the editor: Hey, as we go along in our lives, we make decisions and live with the consequences. Some decisions that people make, is to support the valueless life style of abortion. 10/02/2024 06:25 PM
Wessell contributes to life
Wessell contributes to life
To the editor: I can’t think of anyone who has contributed more to improve the quality of life in Leelanau Township than Ty Wessell. He has been our school superintendent and our commissioner to the Leelanau County Board. 10/02/2024 06:25 PM
Go Empire!
Go Empire!
To the editor: The Village of Empire is lucky to have Karen Baja, Dave Taghon, and Diana Oberschulte, who hosted an outdoor Empire candidate forum earlier this month. Empire has seven people running for three Trustee seats; the chance to get to know the candidates is challenging. 10/02/2024 06:25 PM

‘Andma’ is reporter’s favorite role
I’ve played a number of roles in my life. Sister, student, journalist, daughter, wife, mother… But I believe my favorite role to date is that of grandmother or what my granddaughters call me, “Andma.” My oldest granddaughter, Michelle, AKA “Winkie,” made me an Andma for the first time. 10/02/2024 06:25 PM
