Leland Twp. issues
Leland Twp. issues
To the editor: I’m often asked what I see as the top issues facing Leland Township over the next four years. While there are many — park improvements (including the DNR launch), rebuilding the library seawall, prioritizing road repairs — the list starts with mending the divisions that have widened the last several years, and earning back the community’s confidence in our local government. 07/02/2024 05:21 PM

To the editor: Leelanau County is a wonderful place to live and this is in no small part due to effective leaders working in county government. Kama Ross is my representative on the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners and she is an exemplar of local leadership that works to make our county a wonderful place to live. 07/02/2024 05:21 PM

Whitmer silent on presidential race
It’s a harmful, often laughfi lled cat and mouse game that Michigan governors have played with the political press in our town over the years but never before has it crescendoed to where we are today. If you combine all the national coverage with what the news hounds around here are writing, speculation about a certain female governor for president is about as omnipresent in the media as the daily weather report. 07/02/2024 05:21 PM

Enjoy these moments
As the Fourth of July weekend is upon us, let’s take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. As we celebrate the Independence of the United States of America in 1776, and the continued fight for freedom, we shall be holding our family closer than ever on this joyous holiday. 07/02/2024 05:21 PM
Gala kudos
Gala kudos
To the editor: On behalf of the board of directors for the Leelanau County Cancer Foundation, I would like to thank everyone who made our Gala of Grace fundraiser successful. To French Valley Vineyards for providing the venue, North Coast Trio and Sara Hartley for providing entertainment, to all those who donated auction items or food for our buffet, and to all those who attended and so generously bid on items, too numerous to name, we sincerely appreciate you. 07/02/2024 05:21 PM
Celebrating the 4th
Celebrating the 4th
A signatory of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams wrote in the summer of 1776 to his wife Abigail that he believed Independence Day “will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival … it ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more.” 07/02/2024 05:21 PM
Reelect Ross
Reelect Ross
To the editor: I am thrilled that Kama Ross is running to continue her service as a Leelanau County Commissioner for District 5. Considering all the volunteer activities she has done and continues to do for our community, she is clearly a human dynamo! I do not know how she finds time for it all. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
Kudos to Mawby
Kudos to Mawby
To the editor: I read with great interest Larry Mawby’s efforts to establish affordable housing in Suttons Bay. Housing young people can afford is one of the greatest priorities I can name regarding the future of our community. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
Tough question
Tough question
To the editor: How can a man judged to be mentally unfit to stand trial for 40 years of Espionage Act violations somehow at the same time be deemed fit to serve as President of the United States? This is a question that all Democrats in this country must somehow reconcile and justify in their minds before casting their vote for Joe Biden this November. And it’s one reason I’m voting for President Trump. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
Giver… not a taker
Giver… not a taker
To the editor: I’d like to comment on last week’s letter to the editor titled “Walks the Walk” written by Steve Gilbreath about the community involvement activities of Kama Ross. Not only is Kama currently involved in the Northport music scene and on the county commissioners board, she also has served in the Peace Corps and a host of other activities too long to mention in her earlier years. 06/26/2024 04:30 PM
