To the editor: I’m like other weary residents of Leelanau County. That is, ecstatic that the election is over. 11/27/2024 08:54 AM
Add another name to governor list
Add another name to governor list
At the end of a TV report last week listing the raft of would-be candidates for governor from both parties, the story ended with a rather tongue in cheek close, “if your name is not on the list, call me … collect.” 11/27/2024 08:54 AM

To the editor: Thank you to all involved in putting together the 11/11 @11 Veterans Day Ceremony at the Little Finger VFW Post #7731, and especially Gene Kelly for his inspiring keynote and Pastor Nieheiser for his invocation. The reporting in the 11/14 Leelanau Enterprise is also greatly appreciated. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM
Manitou dock struggle from a distance
Manitou dock struggle from a distance
There’s a 1980s pop song titled “From a Distance” that has a place in explaining the shortened life of a $1 million dock on North Manitou Island, and why the National Park Service is forging ahead with construction of a look-alike dock for many millions more. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM

Taking time to explore New England
I saw the ocean again this year. Traveling by plane for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, I went to New England. My last vacation up to this point was at a resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which is nestled between the Sierra Madre mountains and the Pacific coast. It felt appropriate to bookend years of travel restrictions with a visit to the other side of the continent. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM

To the editor: Sleeping Bear Naturally sincerely thanks the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) for their essential role in Superintendent Scott Tucker’s decision to pause all work on Segment 9 of the Heritage Trail indefinitely. Because of GTB’s strong commitment to the natural world, these rare wetlands, mature forests and steep dunes will remain intact. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM

To the editor: The Little Garden Club (LGC) was founded in 1975 and aims to stimulate, foster and promote the knowledge of conservation and horticulture. We are proud to offer 2025 grant funding, fueled by the organization’s biannual Garden Tour ticket sales and sponsorships. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM

To the editor: The League of Women Voters of Leelanau County affirms that our electoral process performed as it was designed in this election. The system has built-in redundancy so that any errors can be identified and corrected. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM

During Native American fall harvest, plant-based recipes take center stage
I was heartened to read the news of President Biden’s apology for the government’s 150 years of moving Native American children into boarding schools. This comes as many Americans prepare for Thanksgiving in November, which is also Native American Heritage Month. The timing of these two commemorations comes with more than a bit of irony given that a traditional Thanksgiving celebrates a coming together of early European immigrants with Native Americans, the result of which was the tragic loss of Indigenous tribes and the colonization of Native American land and communities. 11/20/2024 04:34 PM

The curse of the governor’s seat

To the editor: After working in Centerville Township precinct during both our primary and general elections this year, I wanted to commend our County and Township officials during a challenging year. No voting system is perfect, no technology is perfect, and thankfully there are several layers of checks and balances. 11/13/2024 05:42 PM

To the editor: I just read an article from the Wall Street Journal authored by RFKJr., 9/5/24. Headlined “Make America Healthy Again.” He illuminates the chronic disease crisis (CDC), gripping the USA. 11/13/2024 05:42 PM
