Free clean energy is good energy

To the editor: For the record, Leelanau County actually rates pretty well for solar energy. Germany is further north than we are, and they generate over 10% of their country’s electricity from solar. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

To the editor: In his editorial last week, Mr Popa’s confident negativity regarding solar energy in Michigan seems so convincing that only the foolish would wander there — that is until you know the facts. Here are just a few facts from the Solar Energy Industries Association. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

To the editor: As a newcomer to Leelanau County, I want to highlight the vital role Parenting Communities played in integrating families like mine into the community. Beyond the documented evidence which underlines the program’s efficacy on improving parenting skills and connecting families to resources, they offer a priceless human touch. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

Possible gubernatorial candidates for 2026
There are, give or take, about 550 days before Michigan voters pick a new governor, so you might be asking yourself why am I about to waste my time on a column on whom might be the next governor in November 2026? 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

What is patriotism?
What is patriotism?
To the editor: I once asked a local Patriot, “What makes you more patriotic than me?”. His reply was “Did you serve?” My answer was “No.” If that were the only criteria for being a patriot hardly any one else could qualify. 06/05/2024 08:28 PM

One of the biggest perks about writing for a community newspaper is the opportunity given to meet local students cutting out paper dolls in kindergarten, then follow their growth through graduation and beyond. 06/05/2024 08:28 PM
Election integrity
Election integrity
To the editor: We are five months out from the November election and only two months out from our Michigan August primary. Unfortunately, there is too much conversation at the national, state, and local levels about the integrity of the upcoming elections. 06/05/2024 08:28 PM

To the editor: Do you love TART Trails AND Sleeping Bear Dunes? Unfortunately, we must choose between the two regarding the proposed extension of the Heritage Trail because dunes at the north end of the National Park face destruction in order to (someday?) connect the bike trail across to Suttons Bay. The 22 mile Heritage Trail will soon get 4 more miles if the National Park/TART Trail plan goes forward. 06/05/2024 08:28 PM

To the editor: Thanks to Tony Borden for highlighting the unfortunate Leland River dock removal. It seems we ended up in a situation no one wants. 06/05/2024 08:28 PM

To the editor: Our garage/house caught fire in January. We haven’t spoken in public until the house was gutted. 06/05/2024 08:28 PM
