To the editor: Do you remember the Maffia mob boss John Gotti — the so called “Teflon John” because he was indicted and tried in three different consecutive trials on felony charges of five murders, obstruction of justice, extortion and racketeering and found guilty. Gotti avoided consequences for his crimes but never once claimed he was being “picked on” or was the object of someone’s animus. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

To the editor: The 2023 Lights, Bites, and Books Gala at the Suttons Bay Bingham District Library is now in the history books. Many thanks to the attendees and donors of items for the silent auction and all the volunteers who worked many hours to make this event happen. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM
Board dysfunction
Board dysfunction
To the editor: I am appalled to read about a costly FOIA request from Commissioner Lautner to obtain information that Commissioner Ross refuses to share. First of all, why does an elected county commissioner even need to request a FOIA to obtain official information required to perform her oversight duties? The real issue is dysfunction on the board of commissioners. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM

To the editor: In the Nov. 23rd edition of the Enterprise, we were able to see two contrasting examples of how citizens have the opportunity to impact our community. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM

Job market strong
To the editor: Here is some vital information for everyone’s consideration as our Presidential Election approaches. The jobs report from Friday 12/8 indicates that 199,000 jobs were created in November; Unemployment fell to 3.7% and wages were up 0.4%. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM
Wait a while
Wait a while
To the editor: An adage goes, “there is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come.” Well, the idea of full green energy has not yet come and won’t for quite a while. But hey, I’m all for it and when you can offer me an affordable non-Chinese-made sedan with a small and SAFE 10-year battery which will go 600 miles at 75 mph and recharges in 30 minutes for $20 I’ll buy one. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM
Rental issue resolved?
Rental issue resolved?
To the editor: As we approach winter in Cherry Home Shores, we reflect on how peaceful the summers have become after the board took action to shut down predatory vacation rentals. We achieved an uneasy peace against commercial interests. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM

A friendly reminder this holiday season
I know I’m not the first to say this, let alone the first to share in this feeling, but I believe it’s important to hear as Christmas quickly approaches: It’s okay to feel sad during the holidays. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM

EMS response praised
EMS response praised
To the editor: Recently I experienced a medical emergency during a Village Voices rehearsal and 911 was called to the Northport School, Thanks to all the Village Voices members who acted so quickly and especially to Northport’s high quality, rapid response team. The EMTs acted very professionally and courteously. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM
Year-end reflections on Board of Commissioners
Year-end reflections on Board of Commissioners
Residents can take pride in their county government. Our elected officials (Clerk, Sheriff, Prosecutor, Courts, Treasurer, Register of Deeds) and our staff are outstanding. We have low tax rates, little debt, balanced budgets, and a well-funded retirement system. We provide efficient delivery of services vital to the county’s economy and our citizens’ wellbeing. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM

To the editor: I read with GREAT interest the headline article “Board OK’s employee survey” in the November 16 edition of the Leelanau Enterprise. I have been a resident of Suttons Bay for over ten years and am concerned at the number of examples where conduct among the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners has demonstrated acrimony and or contempt. 12/06/2023 05:33 PM
