Michigan Press Association president In 2016 when she was Candidate Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan issued “Get it Done: A Michigan Sunshine Plan.” The first item under the headline “Making State Government More Transparent & Responsive to Taxpayers” was this bullet point: Expanding Freedom of Information Act to include the governor’s office and legislature. To the editor: When is the “life of a mother” in danger? How close to death does she have to be to qualify for emergency care? Whether it’s a miscarriage with complications or an ectopic pregnancy, in a restrictive state that puts fearful healthcare professionals in jeopardy the ultimate price will be paid by the woman.
