Opening Day success: Baker snags buck
Jake Baker stepped out to hunt on opening day Saturday to try his luck. After only a few hours, he was loading up a beautiful buck in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Baker, a Colorado resident, moved to northern Michigan only a few months ago, and struck his best deer yet on M-22, just north of Port Oneida.

STR at capcity in Cleveland TWP
Cleveland Township short-term rental (STR) program is now in its second year and continues to operate at capacity. Zoning Administrator Scott Sheehan reported that all 36 available permits are currently issued, with six additional applicants in line and a few more residents have expressed interest.

Bark River Harris Broncos (10-1) advanced to the MHSAA Div. 8 state semifinals after winning a regional championship 22-21 over Glen Lake thanks to a remarkable game-winning 90-yard lateral kickoff return for a touchdown, and two-point conversion from Bronco junior Gionni McDonough.

Sabres back-to-back regional champions
A dominant third set earned Traverse City Christian Sabres (29-16-2) back-to-back regional championship titles after defeating Onekama Portagers (35-10-3) 25-23, 25-21, 25-10 Thursday during a MHSAA Div. 4 regional at Buckley.
