Make America Great Again. Really?
Make America Great Again. Really?
To the editor: In her new book “Attack From Within,” University of Michigan law professor Barbara McQuaid writes: “Make America Great Again implies a wish to return to what some may consider the good old days, when white men were dominant, women were subservient, and people of color were pushed to the lower rungs of society.” No thanks. President Biden closed his recent State of the Union Address with this: “The issue facing our nation is not how old we are, it’s how old are our ideas. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
Humans … devalued
Humans … devalued
To the editor: Fervent Democrat support for abortion, including late term, continues to ignore an inconvenient truth: abortion stops a beating heart. We must not follow Satanist Aleister Crowley’s dictate, “Do what thou wilt!” Instead, we should adhere to basic humanity, guided by Jesus’ teachings of love and compassion for human life, even when that requires great personal sacrifice. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM

Disturbing
To the editor: While visiting our children and grandchildren in Texas, imagine my disappointment to see two Leelanau leaders standing behind Donald Trump in Grand Rapids. Both Representative Bergman and Sheriff Borkovich were standing in support of the former president as he spoke cruel and incendiary words about human beings who are risking their lives to reach safety in the United States of America. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM

Threat to democracy
To the editor: The plethora of letters in the Enterprise that continue to warn of political hate-laced speech, discordant rhetoric, dictatorship, and threats to truth are convoluted and ill-informed. In a recent CNN interview, speaking from experience, Robert F. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM

Bingham continues blight ordinance discussion
Bingham continues blight ordinance discussion
The Bingham Township Board meeting on Monday was unusually well attended as about 10 township residents were in the audience. Most of them took the opportunity to participate in the board’s ongoing discussion in a blight ordinance that would allow the township to address garbage and junk on township properties without waiting for complaints from its neighbors. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
Excuses
Excuses
To the editor: Sheriff Borkovich calls people who disagree with him and express those opinions via our First Amendment rights, haters? Is that right? Many residents were upset that he appeared with Trump, in uniform, tacitly endorsing his violent rhetoric aimed at immigrants, representing Leelanau County. A real leader, would give a more thoughtful response to this criticism. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
‘Thank you’ Sheriff
‘Thank you’ Sheriff
To the editor: We are fortunate to live in one of the safest counties in Michigan. I felt proud of Sheriff Borkovich for attending the round-table meeting in GR. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
Protecting our water
Protecting our water
To the editor: Concerning the on sale/transfer of property septic inspections: we now have over one year of data on systems needing repair or replacement: 16% of those inspected required some improvement. My comments as the commissioners vote to move forward on the ordinance were that this current ordinance does not go far enough in protecting our lakes and streams. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM

Lately, a four-legged companion has been joining Leelanau County Deputy Jordan Strope on day patrol. Keno, a German Shepherd born in Slovakia and trained in Ludington, moved in with Strope just before Christmas and the two have been living and working together ever since. 04/17/2024 05:24 PM
