Hunting tradition unifying force
I’ve been looking within for answers to a question that’s pertinent to fewer and fewer people. Why do I hunt? It’s a bit late in life for self-reflection on an activity that has driven much of my spare time in fall, the most beautiful of seasons.

A heritage greater than mine
My grandfather’s grandfather was, I believe, an immigrant. My wife’s grandfather’s father was an immigrant.

Thanks for ‘trunks’
To the editor: On behalf of the Empire Area Community Center I would like to thank everyone who brought their “trunks” down to Front Street in Empire on Halloween! It was a great show of togetherness and good will with everyone having a wonderful time in support of our children in the Village and surrounding areas. Also, a big Thanks goes to the Empire Methodist Church for supplying free hot dogs, sliders and chips for everyone and to the Glen Lake Women’s Club for their great bags of treats! March Dye Empire.

Speed limits needed
To the editor: For many years, the residents around the Glen Lakes have requested that speed limits be reduced for the safety of walkers, bikers, and drivers. With the passage of a new bill by Governor Whitmer, townships are now allowed to set those limits.

No blow fall
To the editor: I want to promote a “NO BLOWFALL”. Fallenleaves provide a protective blanket for your gardens which will, over time, turn into mulch.

Good Samaritans
To the editor: Last Monday evening we were almost home after a long day of traveling from Iowa when a deer came out from nowhere and we hit it (or rather it hit us). We were on M-22 south of Suttons Bay.

Support for Tim O’Non
To the editor: I attended last Thursday’s Leelanau League of Women Voter’s candidate forum. After hearing the candidates, it became indubitably obvious to the most casual observer that Tim O’Non is the only qualified candidate for drain commissioner.

Enhance what we have
To the editor: Oh please! Let’s use what we already have — we don’t need “Porta Johns” in our parking lot on the village Main Street. The two bathrooms we presently have — Haserot Park and playground are both centrally located ad available to the public.

What they do…
To the editor: Board Chair Ty Wessell, bypassed all three female Democrat commissioners and overlooked the most experienced commission, Melinda Lautner, a woman, in order to nominate the least experienced commissioner, Doug Rexroat, to be Vice Chair, a man who didn’t event vote for himself. One of the reasons Jamie Kramer gave her resignation was that she had been ignored and overlooked by Chairman Wessell.

Work together
To the editor: The political advertisements of both parties seem to use half truths and misleading information much of the time. I want to hear a more honest approach to what they can realistically accomplish with such a divided legislature.

von Walthausen and Winston
To the editor: I live in Centerville Township. We have had stellar township leaders for many years and we are so fortunate to have two incredible residents that are stepping forward to serve as township trustees.

Real results
To the editor: Ty Wessell and Gwenne Allgaier have had nearly three years to correct the county’’s financial issues, yet taxpayers are still footing the bill with no end in sight. They blame the previous Republican leadership, but now they’re the ones in charge — and failing.
