Empire Hops Festival returns Saturday; Hill Climb draws hundreds
Over 1,000 car enthusiasts descended upon Wilco Road for the Dave’s Garage Empire Hill Climb Saturday. Check out the results below. From one event to the next, as the Empire Hops & Harvest Festival is ready to return Saturday, Sept. 20, marking the first revival of the local festival since 2019. There will be plenty of food, fun, and libations. Front Street will be closed from noon to 10 p.m. for a celebration that has been five years in the making.

New bike trail approved for Braman Hill
Work to create a 0.8 mile-long mountain bike trail at Braman Hill will begin this week after Leelanau Township approved at its Sept. 9 regular meeting a contract with YouthWork Industries for $7,486.25.

Suttons Bay volleyball undefeated; faces test against Frankfort tonight
Suttons Bay girls volleyball (10-0) continues a hot start to the season with a four-set victory over Buckley (9-4), Thursday, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23. “These girls are working their butts off, and it's paying off with wins,” Suttons Bay coach Olivia Dohm said. “These girls are trusting each other and holding each other accountable."

Fatal crash on M-22: Alcohol believed to be factor
A 2-car accident on S. West Bay Shore Drive (M-22) near Walters Drive was reported after 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, where a 61-year-old man was left dead, and four others injured after a 2025 Chevrolet pick-up truck crossed the centerline and crashed into a Honda SUV.
