Permits OK'd for 6 duplexes in S-B
Suttons Bay Village recently issued land use permits for 12 residential units across six duplexes at the north end of the village in July and August. This is part of the Harbor Heights development, which will eventually consist of 32 units across 16 duplexes on Waypoint Circle Drive, at the end of North Duester Park Lane.

Frankfort painter Ellie Harold traveled to Paris in 2022, a pilgrimage to view an exhibition of paintings by Impressionist Claude Monet and Abstract Expressionist Joan Mitchell. The souvenirs from that trip weren’t T-shirts and tote bags, but questions, including: What does it mean to be a “real” artist? Harold explores that question in the resulting book, “Monet, Mitchell & Me: A Painter’s Pilgrimage.” She talks about how she answered that question at the Sept.

Board OKs consent agenda
The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners approved the following items under their consent agenda at their September regular meeting Tuesday: • An inmate housing agreement between the Leelanau and Grand Traverse County sheriff ’s offices, allowing the former to officially board inmates for the latter from October 2024 through Dec. 31, 2025.

A new distillery tasting room
A new distillery tasting room is under construction at Gallagher Farms in Elmwood Township. Slated for a late summer/early fall 2025 completion, the distillery represents a move towards “vertical integration,” allowing the Gallagher clan to process fruits and grains into alcohol products on site and maintain the family farm’s viability, John Gallagher III said.

Npt. water rates expected to increase over next five years
The cost of water rates for Northport residents is projected to increase by 20% between the years 2025 and 2028, according to a recent Utilities Financial Solutions study presented to the Northport Village Council on Thursday, Sept. 12. In 2029, the water rate is projected to increase by 10%.

New S-B pizzeria features ‘cudighi’ from the U.P.
Bay Pizzeria in Suttons Bay is the newest pizza place in town after Premonitions was sold to Bay Burrito owner Desmond Berry and his business partners in July. Bay Pizzeria celebrated its grand opening on Monday with free pizza slices.
