‘JCs Ooasis’ offers farm experiences for youth
A relatively new farm experience in Lake Leelanau houses an array of animals that people can schedule a private tour to visit and learn more about. Linda Oosse operates “JCs Ooasis,” which is home to dozens of mostly rescued farm animals ranging from goats, guinea pigs, and miniature pigs, to ducks, a miniature horse, and roughly 50 chickens, among many others.

Northport goes to the dogs Saturday
The annual Northport Dog Parade is a fun yearly tradition that brings people and their pups together for one epic parade on Saturday. In-person registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and the parade starts at noon, with a fee of $10 per dog. Golf carts and floats are allowed.

From vineyard to glass

TC Whiskey marks milestone
This weekend, the Traverse City Whiskey Company (TC Whiskey) will mark a major milestone towards the completion of their new development in Elmwood Township. The company’s president, Chris Frederickson, said they recently finished erecting a 20,000-squarefoot warehouse at 9440 S. Center Highway.

Bubbly, sparkling wine reason to celebrate
Mawby Winery started in 1973 as the second grape-growers in Leelanau County. In 1984, founder Larry Mawby debuted the vintner’s first sparkling wine. By the late 1990s, the winery had switched production over to exclusively méthode champenoise sparkling wines, and they never looked back. As Mawby puts it, they haven’t “made any table wines this century.”

Leelanau Tea selling worldwide
Leelanau Tea continues to be on the rise in 2024, taking claim of a foothold in the craft lemonade and tea industry since opening in 2021. Leelanau Tea owner Kevin Vann said business is going well for the local beverage maker.
